8 Effective Odor Removal Tips

Your home can become full of unwanted odors within a matter of seconds. It doesn’t matter whether it’s trash, pets, children, or mildew—odors can affect the comfort in your home regardless of the source. You aren’t the only person who notices the foul smells in your home. Your guests, neighbors, and children will notice as well.

Trying to remove these unwanted smells can be tricky. The process of removing odors in Marietta can leave you stressed and exhausted after a few hours. In many homes, the odors come from kitchens, trash, dirty carpets, and bathrooms. Sometimes it can be difficult to locate the source of the smell. Thankfully, there are a few effective ways to remove your unwanted odor from your home.

General Odors

Try to use your nose to locate the general location of the smell. Once you have narrowed down the area, try to find the exact source. When you find the problem, clean it with hot soapy water and use an antibacterial detergent. Dawn dish soap is a wonderful option. After you clean the area, fill a bowl with 1/2 cup of water and a 1/2 cup of white vinegar, dip a rag in this mixture, and use it to wipe down the surface you just cleaned. The water and vinegar will disinfect the area that you just cleaned.

Air Out Your Home

After you have cleaned a foul-smelling area, open a few windows to air out your home. Opening windows will allow clean air to flow through your home and create a clean air smell, while allowing the harsh smells to flow right out.

Removing Pet Urine

The first step to removing this foul odor is to walk through your home and locate the source of the smell. You can use your nose or a black light to locate the targeted area.

After you have located the source of the smell, you need to start your process of removal. The first thing to do is blot the area with white paper towels. This will remove all of the liquid from your carpet. Make sure you don’t rub the paper towels around. Rubbing them around will only spread the stain. Next, apply a mixture of white vinegar and water. Let it soak for several minutes, then use paper towels to clean it up. Lay a towel over the wet area to dry.

Carpet Odors

If you’ve got strong carpet odors, the easiest way to remove them is to use a carpet cleaner or steamer. If that still doesn’t fix your problem, it might be time to replace your carpet. Old carpet can accumulate dirt and smells that can never be erased.

Clean Your Refrigerator

The nasty smell in your kitchen might be from an older leftover or piece of fruit that simply never got thrown away. If you throw old items away and still smell something foul, mix 1/4 cup of baking soda and 4 cups of water together, then wipe down the inside of your fridge.

Throw Out Your Trash

Not throwing out your trash on a regular basis will cause unwanted smells in your home. Be sure to dispose of all food waste immediately.

Clean Stinky Sponges

If you’re smelling mildew in your kitchen, it might just be your old sponge. You can either throw it away and get a new one, or soak them in 2/3 cup of bleach and a gallon of water.

Clean Your Toilet

Your unwanted bathroom smells might be from a dirty toilet bowl. Be sure that you clean your toilet on a regular basis.
